About Me

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Pippi Hornsby and I'm a Mechanical Engineer (MEng) and Product Designer (MA).

A friend of mine once told me that if I bought an item of clothing without changing it in some way, it wouldn't really be mine - and I can't help thinking he was right!

Paper Yak is my long running arts and crafts blog.  Started in 2011, Paper Yak documents my adventures in to arts and crafts of all varieties - from fixing jeans, to making a coconut bra (with real coconuts), and a little bit of DIY thrown in just for good measure.

My favourite hobby, and the one you'll see most frequently on the blog, is sewing.  I've been sewing since I can remember, but things really took of when I studied GCSE Textiles.  Had I not enjoyed maths and science so much, I probably would have persued textile art or fashion professionally, but I ended up studying Mechanical Engineering so kept sewing as my hobby.

To me, engineering and sewing aren't a world apart; the aim of both is to be able to make something, and there's a decent amount of maths in sewing when you start drafting your own patterns.  My real passion is making, and I'll make anything!

On this blog you'll find a whole host of things that I've made.  Some are laid out as tutorials, some display finished objects, and some only make it as far as plans.

Because this is my hobby blog, I don't have an upload schedule, but I do update so if you like what you see, please feel free to subscribe.  You can also follow me on social media (where I am quite active).
