One hell of a gourd!

On the 23rd October it was my Gran's birthday so I got the train from uni to go and visit her at her house and mum drove up from home. I always have a great time at my Gran's house because she's an amazing cook, but what made this visit even better was that my mum had brought me up a couple of presents!

One was a bottle of plum rum that I made this summer when we had a massive glut of Victoria plums on our plum tree, but the other was just ridiculous.

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, by my dad specialises in growing mutant vegetables. I'm not even kidding. All our root vegetables have legs, some even have arms too, and our potatoes look like they could march on London, if they could get their act together.  Anyway, this year, he has grown some pumpkins for the first time and my mum drove one up for me.

This is it compared to my head:

Now, I know it doesn't look like much, and I am yet to scientifically weigh it, but it weighs an absolute ton! I will eventually borrow some bathroom scales off a friend but I didn't even want to chance it with the kitchen scales. It would squash them - apologies for the pun!

So anyway, you better be looking forward to watching me carve this brute, because I sure am looking forward to carving it!
